Mr Customer said his laptop keeps shutting down on its own while he was using the laptop. We asked him to reproduce the issue so that we could confirm the symptom. he opens his laptop and after a few minutes the laptop turned off on its own. the technician asked Mr Customer to send in his laptop for troubleshooting.
First, we tried booting the laptop with known good SSD but the problem remains. Then we start testing the RAM. The laptop has 4 RAM slots and the laptop has 4 RAM sticks so we removed one of the RAM and ran stress test to see if the laptop shuts down on its own. During the stress tests, the technician noticed the temperature is high and the laptop may auto shutdown because of overheating so the technician consults Mr Customer whether he wants to change thermal paste or not and he said yes.
The technician change the thermal paste and the temperature did go down but the problem is not solved. We tried to let the laptop rest overnight. the next day we test it in the morning but the symptom reappears after a few hours of runnning stress test. we suspect its either a board problem or the power button has malfuntioned .when we change the power button’s function to sleep, the laptop auto sleep instead of shutting down. Since the laptop is a japanese brand laptop, the board repairing cannot be done in malaysia. Unfortunately Mr customer decided to not repair the laptop as it was too much hassle.
