Ms Lee has a Dell Inspiron N4050 laptop running on Windows 7, she faced problem when access to some website which showing her the browser is not supported.
The laptop existing specification is I5 2nd Generation Processor, 8GB RAM and a 500GB Hardisk Drive.
We helped her to replaced her hardisk drive with a Adata 120GB Solid State Drive and upgrade the operating system from Windows 7 to Windows 10. This laptop comes with a CD-ROM which she no longer using it, we're able to mount the original hardisk at CD ROM Bay as secondary storage, however, we not suggest this to her as the hardisk is too old and not worth to keep it anymore.
Now the laptop is able to surf the site as usual after running on Windows 10 and smoothly with the new SSD and 8GB RAM is sufficient enough for the normal usage.
Before handed over to customer the laptop, we monitor the temperature since this is a 10 years old laptop, we notice the temperature is 50 ° C , which is higher than the optimal temperature ( optimal temperature average at 30-40 °C ), as the picture shown.
After discussed this with customer, customer agree that we should help her to re-apply the thermal paste.
As what we monitor from the temperature, following show the situation of thermal paste when we remove the heat sink from the main board, its clearly shown that the thermal paste is fade away and no longer covering on the professor chipset :
We first cleaned the heatsink and processor chipset as following picture shown :
and then re-apply the thermal paste. For this case, we're using the Cooler Master Thermal Paste on top of the processor.
We monitoring the temperature again after re-apply the thermal paste, the temperature back to the the optimal temperature which is 30-40 ° C.
We handed over the laptop back to Ms Lee and she is happy with the improving performance of her laptop.
